Google has rolled out an improvement to the way it displays snippets in search results. A snippet is the informational description of a page in an organic search result that helps show how it relates to the search query as shown below snippet of a Google search result:
Google expanded the length allowed in the meta description tag. That’s good news for SEOs?
Even better, though: digital marketers who leave their meta description tags empty will still see an improved presence in the search engine results pages (SERPs). That’s because Google increased the search snippet size as well. Up until recently, the maximum allowable characters in the meta description tag stood at 160. Now, it’s up to 320 and 230 characters on average.
Now you have double the characters you had before to advance your brand in the SERPs. While you don’t have to backpedal and change all of your old web pages, you should exploit the new length on future blog entries and product detail pages. Ensure you utilize that extra space to give individuals motivation to tap on your link.
